GUS DA HOODRAT (BANG GANG)
Feb 25th
Pioneer of the sound thats come to be known as “dimensioneer dance”, Gus is a trailblazing DJ completely unafraid of taking a trip into the murky waters of the sonic exploration, with complete disregard for acceptable club convention and what is commonly recognised as “good cricket”. Taking influence from current erectro-house, baile punk, minimal hechno, 90s French horse, 80s new wave and 70s disco, this disc jockey (without a horse) not only pioneers new dimensions (with, or without a horse), he also helps the deaf ‘n’ disabled, the young ‘n’ restless, the mellow ‘n’ yellow and the aged ‘n’ agitated to discombobulate into parallel universes.

ACID JACKS and BOY + GIRL (LIVE)
Feb 18th
ACID JACKS
At a time when everyone’s an electro DJ, Melbourne miscreants Acid Jacks continue to do just what their name suggests.
Further to being home-crowd favourites, the boys have taken a bite out of the Big Apple. With New York bikie-dance icon Tommie Sunshine on their side, it wasn’t long before Acid Jacks saw their club cut Awake Since ’78 being remixed by MSTRKRFT. A contract with niche US label Trouble & Bass Recordings soon followed, and clubs the world over started to feel the Jack. No amount of success, though, can stop these two from raising hell and talking rubbish.
BOY + GIRL:
Melbourne-born electro-pop duo Boy+Girl were formed two years ago by lifelong friends Dan ‘Zee’ Zielinksi and Dan ‘Caz’ Caswell, who decided to launch their slick and seductive musical vision upon the world after indulging in “Many intense conversations in nightclubs about what was wrong with music and what the music industry needed.” Like so many young upstarts before them, fuelled by self-belief, some guitars, and a vast array of synthesisers, they retreated to the nearest available bedroom (which, conveniently enough, happened to be Zee’s) and began throwing ideas together. “I wasn’t really expecting anything to come from it,” Caz says now. “But slowly we wrote enough songs to do a live set, so we booked a show.” The show was played, the crowd were blown away, and – as inevitably as a well-timed bassline shuddering across a dancefloor – the Boy+Girl gospel began to spread. It hasn’t stopped since. “We’ve continued to improve and evolve, but we’ve always been for ourselves.” The enthusiasm surrounding their slinky synth-studded sound is such that the boys have already supported the likes of Justice (“We had everyone on the floor moving and shaking”), Boyz Noize, Busy P and Kele Okereke from Bloc Party

SAMMY BANANAS INTERVIEW
Feb 9th
So Sam, it’s your first time in Australia, what do you think of it?
“So far I really like it. I mean the weather here was really surprising though, having arrived in Melbourne yesterday and it be 114 degrees Fahrenheit. And today it’s raining and last night it got cold. But yeah so far so good, I think that people really like to go out and party and dance in Australia, and that makes it fun to be a DJ.”
Where else in Australia are you playing while you’re down here?
“I played in Brisbane the night before last, then Melbourne, and then I’m playing in Sydney and Adelaide.”
What did you think of WOW?
“WOW was great, I really liked the venue. It’s a cool setup, and a nice way to turn a big club into a good space for a party. Everyone there was into it, the DJ’s were good, and yeah it was great.”
How did you get the name “Sammy Bananas”?
“I got the name Sammy Banana’s because I used to be in this DJ duo called Certified Banana’s, and we sort of ended up splitting up the name into our own DJ names to carry on our brand. And the guy that helped us come up with that idea was Chris Devlin from Spank Rock. So I give him full credit for all of my success as Sammy Bananas (laughter).”
How long have you been DJing?
“So I guess at this point I’ve been DJing for about 10 years, which is kind of a long time.”
And the Fools Gold record label, how did you get involved with that? And how long have you been with them?
“Fools Gold I’ve been working with for almost 2 years at this point, which is actually the age of that label. I knew both A-trak and Nick Catchdubs, who are the guys that run it, before they started. And when they were deciding to start a label they were looking for people who put out music, and they were both fans of some of the stuff I’d been doing. I did this Chromeo remix about 2 ½ years ago that A-trak was a big fan of, and Nick I’d known for a long time as a DJ and had traded music with. So that’s kind of how I got hooked up with them. So far I’ve got 2 EP’s out with them both with remix’s and bootlegs, and I’ve done some other remix’s for their artists like Trackademics and Bag Raiders, and yeah hopefully it will all keep going well.”
So what can we expect from you in the future?
“Lots of potassium packed party madness. And other than a catch-phrase, I’m starting to do more, I guess, original music that’s not heavily sample based or bootleg music. So I’m trying to bring across a theme or vibe like with my other songs, but have stuff like me singing and ridiculous stuff like that.”
